Triethylene Glycol
It is known by the name Triethylene Glycol or Tri Glycol and TEG. It is a colorless substance with a high viscosity and boiling point, low volatility. It is a colorless substance with high viscosity and boiling point, low volatility.
This substance is a moisture absorber with the chemical formula C6 14 O4. It can absorb moisture from other substances. This chemical substance is easily soluble in water. The boiling point is higher than monoethylene glycol and diethylene glycol.
In addition to water, this chemical substance is also soluble in ethanol, acetone, acetic acid, glycerin, pyridine and aldehydes. But it is insoluble in oil and most hydrocarbons.
Triethylene glycol has three ethylene groups connected by oxygen atoms. There are also two alcoholic-OH characteristics.
USES OF TRIETHYLENE GLYCOL ACETATE
Due to its high water absorption property, the main and main field of use of triethylene glycol is its moisture absorbing property. Therefore, the main uses of this chemical are to use it in natural gas transmission lines and to prevent the liquefaction of moisture in pipelines by absorbing the moisture in the gas.
Some other uses of this mixture are as follows:
It is used as an auxiliary material in the preparation of polyester resin.
It is used as a plasticizer in the production of vinyl-based polymers.
It is used as an auxiliary material in the production of brake fluid and hydraulic oils.
It is used as a solvent in the textile industry and in the dyeing process.
It is used very little in the production of antifreeze.
It is used in air conditioning systems due to the moisture-absorbing and relatively weak antibacterial properties of triethylene glycol.
It is used as an auxiliary material in the production of products with a high boiling point.
THE PRODUCTION PROCESS OF THIS SUBSTANCE
It is produced as a by-product in the high temperature oxidation reaction of ethylene and in the presence of silver oxide as a catalyst.
The main and major triethylene glycol producers in Iran are Shazand Petrochemical, Maron Petrochemical and Marvarid Petrochemical.
SECURITY ISSUES
THE EFFECT OF THIS MIXTURE ON HEALTH AND BASIC FIRST AID
Contact of this substance with the eyes causes irritation, inflammation and swelling of the eyelids. After contact with the eyes, the eye should be washed immediately with plenty of cold water for at least 10 minutes. It is necessary to see a doctor in order to receive medical care.
If triethylene glycol comes into contact with the skin, it is possible to itch and irritate the skin. Therefore, first wash the skin with plenty of cold water and soap. Apply an emollient cream to the irritated part of the skin. If skin irritation persists, be sure to consult a doctor.
This compound emits toxic fumes when burned. Therefore, in case of inhalation of this substance, immediately remove the affected person to the open air. If breathing has stopped, perform CPR on the affected person. If there are breathing difficulties, give artificial oxygen. In case of ingestion of this chemical solvent, do not force the affected person to vomit. Also, do not feed the person anything. Their ties, vests, necklaces, belts, etc. open it up and let him breathe better. Definitely see a doctor.
MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE METHODS
Triethylene glycol is a stable and non-corrosive substance. For storage, you can use metal tankers, aluminum, stainless steel and epoxy coated metal barrels. It is recommended to close the lid of the container containing this chemical well. It must be well sealed until it can be reused, and oxygen cannot reach this material.
